I went to a  poetry workshop today and I think I’ll use a prompt from it and the resulting poem.  We generated five words and then traded those words with another.  Then Betty Scott gave us a statement.  Words: pendant, fir tree, otter, broom, blush.  Statement: I wept for you.

I wept for you.

I saw you in the dust patterns,

Created as I swept;

Your spiritual essence embodied in the pentacle

Hanging from your neck.

Your neck was thick and furry

Flowing evenly into your otter body

As it curled beneath the fir tree.

I wept for you.

Not because your Earthly form

No longer blushes human.

I imagine you would love

Exploring our world

In the form of an otter.

What places you could go that I cannot!

What will be the taste of your first fish

Swallowed fresh from

A glacier-fed stream?

I see now that I  never wept for you.

I wept for me.
