The weather this morning is worthy of note;
They say in Chicago you must wear a coat and snuggle a scarf
On your neck and your chin, or, if you can manage,
Just choose to stay in.

Tornadoes and snow storms,
Earthquakes and floods,
Droughts and a city demolished by mud.
With all these increasing around planet Earth,
Scientists tell us this all will get worse.
And yet there are those who refuse to believe
That corporate greed
Will take what we need for a viable planet
Where known life will flourish;
They still want to drill oil,
Destroying what nourished this beautiful Earth
That we all can call home;
We wish they would leave all the tar sands alone.

I only can think, as I hear the TV,
That corporate bosses can see what we see.
I hope that somewhere they have hearts in their chests
That care if their grandkids inherit what’s left
Of forests and rivers and seas that are clean
On our planet that could be more verdant and green.
Yes, up in Chicago I hope CEO’s
On April 15th are out shoveling snow.
